You’ll be well-versed in modern approaches to software development used in today’s fastest growing companies such as Agile Methodology, Pair Programming with Senior Developers, and Code Reviews; and by the time you reach the finish line, you’ll have a polished portfolio complete with everything you need to learn and thrive in the constantly changing world of web development.

What Montana Code School Teaches

JavaScript is the only programming language that works both on the server and in the browser. The Montana Code School will build your understanding of the language while introducing you to Node.js, the most popular backend version of javascript. Built for power and efficiency you will swiftly become comfortable manipulating code server-side.

Agile and Lean Methodologies

The Montana Code School teaches you the latest workplace methodologies, both Agile and Lean. These techniques foster greater team compatibilities and how to meet project deadlines in the most efficient ways.

We explore and build foundational understanding for a variety of data storage tools used in today’s web industry, MongoDB, Redis, and MySQL.

HTML and CSS make up the structure that supports the web. You’ll learn responsive techniques, crucial for modern websites & apps, while also gaining an understanding of web design.

Montana Code School does not require applicants to have any prior experience writing code.

Course Syllabus

The Montana Code School provides access to online learning programs in order for incoming students to garner a rudimentary understanding of code and to make the first few weeks exploring code more comfortable for our students.

We recommend that once a student is accepted into a program, they complete our pre-work courses. The pre-work helps to build an initial understanding of coding.

Montana Code School’s Full-Time Immersive course is the fastest and most effective way to learn the skills you need to get a job as a junior developer.

The full-time course meets Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm, for 3 months.

It’s also a serious commitment. Students are expected to pour their heart and soul into living and breathing code for the duration of the program. If you want to code as a career, or are simply looking to bring a firm understanding of the development stack to your workplace, this is the place to do it.

There’s no better or more beautiful place in the country to learn to code – or believe us, we’d be there.

Course Overview

Team Lift Off

During stage one, you’ll get to know the team of students joining you at MCS, what your days will look like, and a birds-eye perspective on how incremental programming works.

When you’re done with Week One, you’ll have a solid understanding of programming from its highest levels and be able to make real changes to code (it’s ok to use your cheat sheet!).

Front-End Development

During stage two, you’ll learn the most popular tools and technologies behind some of the world’s greatest web companies – including HTML5, CSS3, Sass, jQuery JavaScript, React and more.

This will be your programming foundation.

Back-End Development

To be a tried-and-true full stack developer you will need to learn how to build and manage your own servers. Stage three will teach you the most popular backend JavaScript language: Node.js

Paired Programming

Things start to heat up during stage four. You and a partner will program a project from scratch using what you have learned.

You and your partner will be given a real problem Montana businesses face that software can solve – carrying responsibility for both delivering the product and communicating with the client.

Nobody will ever give you exact specs for their software – so you’ll learn how to ask the right questions, which will enable you to build the right product.

Team Development

Stage five has, as a capstone assignment, you will be placed into teams tasked with creating your own web apps. It’s up to you and your team to brainstorm what this app will do, how will it function, and who will it help – then build it.

This is where you will become truly valuable to an employer. You will learn how to put it all together as a team-oriented, full stack developer capable of seeing issues globally and diving deep to fix any bugs.

Montana Code School works hard to provide its students with financing options that make sense.  We are excited to partner with Missoula Federal Credit Union for students who need help financing their tuition. These Montana Code School specific loans vary in rates dependent on individual credit score, history and how much you borrow. The plans are affordable and convenient. Please contact us for details.

Montana Code School requires that attendees find housing off-campus. We are unable to provide on-campus housing at this time. However, we expect that you will find the cost of living in Missoula to be very affordable. We are working with local property managers to provide discounts and month-to-month options for admitted students. If you are interested in learning more about these options, or simply need assistance finding a place to reside during the course duration, please indicate so on your application.
